To Hispanics: Just in Time for the Midterms!

Wait… what?

On September 30, 2026, Donald Trump hosted a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at the White House.

And he had a message for the Hispanics in the room.

“You’re hardworking people. You’re smart as hell. You’re energetic, sometimes too energetic.”

And then:

“But you’re incredible people, and I’ve loved you right from the beginning.”

Okay… 😂

Trump then reminded everyone that when he builds a wall, he’s building it “to keep bad people out.”

So… there’s a little history to unpack here.

From the Wall to “I Love You”

Trump has spent years talking about immigration, the southern border, walls, and the people he says should be kept out.

Now he’s standing at the White House celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and telling Hispanic Americans how much he loves them.

And there’s another interesting detail.

The event took place just weeks before the November midterm elections.

Oh… It’s Election Season!

Trump ended the event by encouraging his Hispanic supporters to get out and vote.

So what exactly is going on here?

And why are Hispanic voters so important to American politics?

But What Is a Hispanic?

This is where things get more interesting.

Because the meetup isn’t really about Trump.

Trump just happens to be a very Trump-shaped doorway into a much bigger question:

What Does “Hispanic” Actually Mean?

And if you’re Hispanic but don’t speak Spanish, does that make you less Hispanic?

Nope.

Then there’s the inevitable question:

Hispanic or Latino?

Are they the same thing?

Why do Americans use both?

And why does Trump say he prefers “Hispanic”?

Is this another question as complicated as What Does “American” Mean?
